balik kampung with ria

while we anticipate the arrival of syawal this year, we are pleased to unveil our first ever raya scented candle - ria. ria is so special in many ways - having celebrated a different kind of raya last year, we took this opportunity to celebrate nostalgia. preparing delicious kuih-muih (cakes and pastries), donning beautiful traditional outfits and beautifying the home to create a warm space for loved ones should never be a distant memory. ria is here to bring back the essence of what it means to balik kampung (returning to the village).

ria contains notes of lemongrass and ginger, our ode to the aromatic ingredients used in famous traditional malay raya dishes. the energising lemongrass beautifully complements the sweet and musky ginger scent, which is perfect for creating sweetness and warmth in your home this raya.

but can we also talk about that beautiful packaging?! ria’s packaging was exclusively designed by jasmin roslan. our batik design was hand-drawn and inspired by traditional batik parang - a type of batik belonging to the part of indonesia from which our paternal roots originated.

and of course - here’s a little something for the kids (and adults!). we've included colouring sheets of our batik design to keep your guests occupied! you can print the colouring sheet on an A4-sized paper or, download and colour using a tablet. we would love to see what colour combinations you come up with, so please share your creations with us on instagram and tag us @lilin.singapura. download the easy mode here or the original mode here (if you're up for a challenge!).

on a personal note, if you have the privilege of being with your loved ones, we hope this raya will be full of joy, harmony and closeness. if you are like us, we hope you remain steadfast and positive until you are reunited again.

from two sisters in singapore and australia, separated by distance and unable to celebrate raya together, we wish you a blessed ramadan and a joyous hari raya.
