zen, calming and relaxing. these are words commonly associated with candles. for some, candles are also associated with sensuality and has an aura of mystery. it is also common to see candles as part of home décor to add a sense of class and luxury.
but in reality, burning candles from retail stores combined with singapore’s tropical hot weather was not as pleasant as i thought. while candles add a touch of opulence to my home, it was difficult to relax when i was busy feeling sweaty. that’s when i started to check on alternatives and learned about soy wax.
soy wax is vegetable wax made from soybean oil. soy wax candle is perfect for warm climates like singapore because it does not generate as much heat as paraffin wax. when i started to make my own candles, choosing soy wax was a no-brainer. after many trials testing out soy wax for personal use, i am convinced that soy wax is a better and more affordable option. here are other reasons why LILIN chooses soy wax for our scented candles:
long-lasting candle
soy wax has a lower melting point and burns 50% slower than paraffin wax so this will allow you to enjoy our candles longer.
better fragrance throw
throw refers to how well the scent lingers throughout your space. this is the beauty of soy wax - even if you don't want to light a candle, you can still enjoy the scent (this is known as ‘cold throw’). soy wax scented candles are equally good when you light it up and have a good ‘hot throw’.
easy to clean up
firstly, as a home-based business, we need to make sure our home remains a clean, comfortable sanctuary for our family to rest. soy wax is easy to clean up by using dishwashing liquid and hot water. there is no need to use harsh chemicals if you accidentally spill your melted soy wax on your vanity table, thus ensuring that our home furniture are still in good condition. secondly, we have so much love for our jars that we reuse them to make new batches of candles, therefore using soy wax helps us clean our jars without damaging them.
soy wax certainly ticks all the boxes that we look for in creating, and enjoying, scented soy candles in sunny tropical singapore!
